Dr. Rajesh Dharamsi MD (Medicine), DM (Gastroenterology) is the first Gastroenterologist in this region. He completed his training in MD Medicine from Miraj Medical College and Wanless Hospital, Miraj. He completed his training in Gastroenterology from the highly prestigious Christian Medical College, Vellore in 1987. He worked for 1 year in Vellore & after rejecting many offers to work in metro cities, he moved to his hometown Sangli, to serve this region. He started his practice in 1989 from a small 2 room setup in Miraj. The closest other Gastroenterologist at that time was in either Pune or Bangalore. He later started his second OPD in Sangli in 1990. His endless passion to serve needy patients made him popular and he used to visit Karad, Islampur, Belgaon and other small towns to help the needy. He has provided honest & unparalleled service to this region and his popularity now extends to many adjoining states and metro cities. He is also the founder of Deccan Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopists (DSGE), which is a large umbrella body of all endoscopists & gastroenterologists in south Maharashtra, Goa and north Karnataka. He has also been the president of Indian Society of Gastroenterology – Maharashtra chapter. He has been a teacher to many young Gastroenterologists and Physicians. With vast experience and kindness, he leads the Clinical Gastroenterology & Hepatology Departments.
